Poll Results
Did you notice over there on that side bar on this blog that there is a poll asking how often people iron?? If you haven't looked yet... go look now. So here is the good news. Out of the 29 people who answered the poll....15 said that they rarely iron. And 3 more said that they never iron. So there you go.... my confidence is boosted. My failure in the ironing department is only normal. It's always nice to learn things like that.
Believe it or not... I am now going to iron. ( Dress shirts that have been in a box for 2 months qualify as one of those "rarely" moments.)

So on your poll results, do you get to see who answers what? Do you know who those great ironers (is that a word?) are?
I don't like to iron--who does really, but after reading Elder Hales' article on Modesty in the Aug. Ensign I realized that I need to iron more things, so that I can show to the world that disciples of Christ care about their appearances. So here goes, I'll try being better at it. . . wish me luck!
The trick is never wear anything during the week nice enough to need ironing. Just stick to Sunday clothes and ironing is 20 minute a week evil. And that is doable. You can see I love to cut corners.
Jordan is the one that does the ironing...I get the blow-dryer out and just blow out all the wrinkles out while I dry my hair...kill two birds with one stone! Ironing is SO boring to me!...they need to add another element to it like, you have to tap dance in order for the steam to come out.
There is this wrinkle release spray you can buy (I think Downy makes it), and it works like a charm....just spray it on and it pulls all those wrinkles out...much better than ironing!!!
i know you wrote this ages and ages ago, but i was peeking around looking for a good ironing image and stumbled upon your site :)
i am also not a big fan of ironing, but i've found joy in doing it nowadays, in remembering that when i serve my family in even these seemingly tedious ways, i am also serving Christ. it makes all of the difference in the world!
blessings for you and your lovely family,
susan
A look at the past:
My oldest 4 children were born and started school before the advent of permanent press fabric. Little girls wore dresses to school 5 days a week then, plus a nicer dress for church on Sunday. Little boys wore nicer shirts and pants to school. Clothing was mostly all cotton or for adults, wool for winter (which needed to be dry cleaned).
So, after being washed and dried in the dryer, the dresses and shirts needed to be dipped in liquid starch (which came as a powder and had to be cooked with water) and then hung on the line to be dried again. Then they were sprinkled with water (empty quart glass soda bottle with purchased top with little shower head) rolled up and then set aside for the next day. The next day I would have to iron: 12 little dresses, 17 shirts (including husband's), several pairs of chinos (which were thicker than they are now and dried very wrinkled,) and whatever clothing of mine needed ironing. The seams would stay a bit damp for a while so they would all be hung up on hangers to completely dry on a big beam that divided my dining room from my living room.
When the 4 kids would come home from school the entire length of the beam would be hung with clothing. The advent of spray starch cut out the whole dipping, hanging, sprinkling cycle. When permanent press fabric arrived it was greeted by all of us ironing Mamas with cries of joy. My ironing board was semi-permanently retired and from then until now I have ironed only when absolutely necessary! Some progress in this world has been good. :-)
Blessings,
Mary (age 74 - Mom to 6, Grandma to 31 and Great-Grandma to 11.)
I iron weekly! Every Tuesday night. Takes me about an hour. Never have a pile, no dry cleaning bills. My husband goes to work in freshly pressed shirts. I love ironing everything - shirts, jeans, pillowcases, handkerchiefs, tablecloths and napkins.
