Halloween 2014

After we had finished carving this pumpkin we lit it up and then went into another room.  Grayson got to work on something though and was soon pushing a chair over to the silverware drawer.  He got the utensil he needed and then pushed his chair back over to the pumpkin.  Here he is with his carving knife in hand and ready to do a little touch up.  It cracked me up that he understood and imitated all that we'd just done.

Lizzy's pumpkin is the death star in case you can't tell.  And Grayson's pumpkin got eaten by a squirrel but he didn't really mind.

My little Star Wars family... oh and a spider.

Grayson Discovers the Heating Vent

About This Boy

Dear Sam,
Someday you might look back and wonder what you were like when you were 5 years old.  So here you are and you might as well know... you are the cutest kid on earth.  With an excitement that is contagious you can get everyone giggling when your silly giggle erupts.   You follow in your older siblings footsteps in every way.  If Andrew likes green then you do to.  And if he doesn't like Mickey Mouse well then you think he's annoying too.  Because you want to do everything they do... you've gotten really good at those things too.  You can build lego creations with the best of them and somehow you know every character on Star Wars even though there are hundreds.  Your a little bit crazy about Star Wars right now and along with Lizzy and Andrew and even Grayson, the house is constantly filled with Star Wars tunes and light saber wars.

You are an amazing athlete.  You played soccer this year and were the star of your team.  You impressed everyone with the way you actually understand the game and maneuver the ball like a champ.  You scored most of the goals and when everyone was tired of playing... you never were.  Even in the pouring rain and freezing cold, you wanted to play.  Your enthusiasm rubbed off and pretty soon your whole team was doing the skip hop run that you always do and giving high fives.  Dad and I have had so much fun watching you this year.  You also love running and riding your bike.  As I was trying to workout more these last few months, you have been a great motivation constantly racing me while I walked and you rode your bike.  Somehow you always win.  :)
Do you remember daredevil hill?  That's the steep hill that you got to the top of then without even a second thought pummeled down on your bike.  You got bounced right off your bike but immediately popped up smiling and saying "I'm fine.  That was awesome."

Even though you love following your older siblings you also have a mind of your own and sometimes just decide to do or not do something and even if everyone else is doing it, you don't give in to pressure.  Like this year when for whatever reason you decided not to wear your costume to preschool.  You were so excited for weeks to come but when the day arrived, you said you weren't going to wear it and you  didn't no matter how much we tried to convince you.  Speaking of preschool.... you love it.  You come home everyday talking about the games you played, stories you read and letters you learned.  Everyone at preschool likes you because you are just friendly and fun to be around.

You love your family.  You always watch out for Grayson and have dragged him away from something he shouldn't be into more than once.  You adore Dad and can't wait to do anything he wants to do.  You watch sports together, toss a football and wrestle whenever you get a chance.  You like to be with friends, but also can spend hours all by yourself when you are working on a project.
I'm so very proud of you and how hard you work at everything.  I love you more than you could possibly know and can't wait to see you grow.  At the same time, I will miss having my little buddy at home with me when you go to kindergarten next year.
Happy happy birthday.  I hope your day was wonderful and all your wishes came true.... well except for the one about becoming a jedi... maybe next year.

Love, Mom
